Why become an INKOMPASS intern? Why should I apply?

INKOMPASS is a unique 2-cycle internship at Philip Morris International which enables you to DISCOVER yourself through challenges and cultural diversity. You will be given the opportunity to:

- Work on REAL BUSINESS PROJECTS that will help you develop portable skills
- Build an international NETWORK
- Receive personalized feedback and COACHING

If you perform well and meet all criteria during the program, you may receive a job offer with PMI even before you graduate!

Who can apply?

We look for candidates who are:

- Fluent in English
- University students
- Curious, adventurous and open-minded

How do I apply? What is the process?

The application steps are the following:

1. Complete the online application. If you meet the criteria, you will be invited to the next step.
2. Complete the online tests. If you meet the criteria, you will be invited to the next step.
3. Participate in an on-ground assessment (OGA). If you meet the criteria, you will be invited to be an INKOMPASS intern!

Will I be notified about my application progress? If yes, how and when will I be notified?

Yes. You will be informed of your application progress during each step of the process by your registered email. Whether or not you meet the criteria to progress on to the next application step, you will receive an email confirmation regarding your status. If you do not hear back from us within 2-3 weeks of completing an application step, please contact us at inkompass.global@pmi.com.

Can I still apply once the application deadline has passed?

No. Once the application deadline has passed, it is not possible to apply. This is to ensure that all candidates go through the same process.

If I’m not selected for the 1st or 2nd cycle internship in one country, can I apply again if the program is active in some other country?

Yes, you can apply again if the program is active in some other country. However, please note that INKOMPASS follows the same selection process globally.

If INKOMPASS is not yet available in my country, can I apply to an internship in another country?

Each country has different requirements for INKOMPASS interns, in terms of country of residence, current year of study, timing of the program, etc. We encourage you to check your country's local FAQs by clicking the “Apply Now” tab and selecting the country where you wish to apply. There you will find the requirements for applicants in that specific country.

If I am accepted for the internship in a country that I don't live in, will my accommodation, airfare, etc. be paid for?

No. You are responsible for covering any expenses that may arise in order for you to be present and available in the internship country for the duration of each cycle.

If, on the other hand, we send you to another country for business purposes, then all related expenses will be covered.

I am not eligible to apply for an internship. Are there any other positions available?

I am facing issues submitting my application on the website. Who can I contact?

If I don't receive a confirmation email after submitting my application, what should I do?

I inputted some wrong information while completing the application form. Can I still review and edit it at a later stage? Can it be edited even after the application period closes?

Yes, you are able to review and edit your information on your profile page at any point in time during the application period. We recommend that you correct any errors in your application as soon as possible, in order to have a smooth process.

Why does INKOMPASS offer a 2-cycle approach?

INKOMPASS offers a 2-cycle approach because it is an experiential job interview, giving you a better chance to showcase your skills and abilities and giving us a better chance to get to know you.

Across the two cycles, you will work on projects that will allow you to discover our business challenges, opportunities, processes and systems.

The 1st cycle will give you the opportunity to discover several aspects of our company (i.e. operations, people and culture) through projects that allow you to interact with people from different areas.

The 2nd  cycle will give you the opportunity to experience a deep dive into a specific department or functional area.

What sorts of topics will be covered in the online tests?

If your online application meets the criteria, we will send you an invitation to complete two online tests:

1. A Numerical Test will assess your ability to manage and analyze data;
2. A Situational Judgment Test (SJT) will assess your decision-making abilities on a wide variety of simulated scenarios.

Can I retake the online tests?

No. However, this can be examined on a case-by-case basis (i.e. if you faced technical difficulties while taking the online test, if you were unable to complete the tests within the alotted time due to extenuating circumstances, etc.).

What is the on-ground assessment?

The on-ground assessment is the final step in the INKOMPASS selection process. It is a one-day event where candidates can showcase their skills in business cases and team activities, network with other applicants, and meet current PMI employees. This will all occur in a fun and cool setting so that you can feel at ease and be at your best.

Do I need to prepare for the on-ground assessment? If yes, how?

No, there is no need to prepare for the on-ground assessment. Just make sure you arrive on time with full energy and a good attitude.

If I fail to attend the on-ground assessment, will I be allowed other dates as a special case?

This will depend on the recruitment dates and timings of the particular country to which you are applying. Select your target country under the “Apply Now” tab and check the local FAQs. You can also contact your local HR team by replying to the email that you received as an invitation to the assessment day.

Is the INKOMPASS internship paid?

Yes, the INKOMPASS internship offers a very competitive salary. Salaries vary on a country-to-country basis.

When will the internship start and how long will it last? What are the normal working hours?

The timing and length of each cycle as well as working hours vary by country. Therefore, we encourage you to check your country's local FAQs by clicking the “Apply Now” tab and selecting the country where you wish to apply.

In what areas / departments can I expect to work in as an INKOMPASS intern?

This will vary on a country-to-country basis. However, in general, projects are available in the following departments: Marketing, Sales, Finance, HR, Corporate Affairs, Operations, Information Systems (IS). You can also refer to your Country Page to learn more.

Can I choose which department I would like to work in? Are my preferences taken into consideration?

During the selection process, we will try our best to match you to a department based on your interests and your strengths.

Will I be assigned a group project or an individual project?

Depending on the project scope and expected deliverables, projects may require individual or group work. In any case, you can be sure that all projects will be meaningful, challenging, and give you the opportunity to showcase and further develop your skills, whether it is in an individual or group setting.

What type of guidance and support can I expect to receive throughout my program, to help develop me professionally?

Every INKOMPASS intern will receive day-to-day guidance and support from their COACH, who has the same function as a supervisor. He / she will introduce you to your project, clarify expectations, guide you on a day-to-day basis, and provide you with feedback.

In addition, you will also receive support from:

- Your PROJECT SPONSOR, who will ensure you have everything you need in terms of resources and budget to execute your proposals;
- Your BUDDY, who will help you answer general questions and network with different people and departments in the company.

Will I receive feedback regarding my performance? When?

Your COACH and PROJECT SPONSOR will provide you with feedback throughout your INKOMPASS experience.

We also highly value your insights, feedback, and ideas, so please share them with us as well!

What is the criteria for advancement to the 2nd cycle of the program? How will I be assessed?

During the 1st cycle, you will complete a project with a definite scope and deliverables, based on which you will be assessed. We believe that both WHAT you achieve / deliver and HOW you do so is important. This is why you will also be assessed on the behaviors you display which should be aligned with our company’s work ethics.

Throughout the experience you will receive feedback and guidance so that you understand what is expected of you. The final assessment will take place at the end of each internship cycle.

What happens between the 2 cycles of internship?

Staying in touch with you throughout your internship journey is very important to us. You will hear from us between the 2 cycles of your internship, through:

1. An exclusive INKOMPASS mobile app, which will allow you to keep in touch with the global INKOMPASS community;
2. Invitations to company activities and events;
3. Communication from your COACH and BUDDY.

What happens if I don't want to participate in 2nd cycle?

We strive to ensure you have a great 1st cycle experience so that you eagerly look forward to get selected for the 2nd cycle.

However, in case you do not want to continue, there is no obligation for you to do so.

What will happen to my project after my 1st cycle? Will I keep working on it when I come back for my 2nd cycle? Will I have the option to work on it?

This will vary on a country-to-country basis. More details will be shared at the start of your 2nd cycle.

Will I receive a job offer with Philip Morris International when I complete my internship?

If you successfully complete both cycles of the INKOMPASS internship and meet the required performance standards, you may receive a job offer at the completion of your 2nd cycle.
